This is eaten immediately following kiddush, before washing for challah. On the second night of Rosh Hashana, we eat an unusual fruit which is unlikely to have been eaten in the past year. Yehi ratzon mil'fane-cha sheti-chadesh aleinu shana tova umetuka. Dip and say the following:īaruch atah adonai, eloheinu melech ha'aolam, borei pri ha'etz. On the first night of Rosh Hashana, we dip a piece of an apple in honey to express our prayer and hope for a sweet new year. (guests respond: Amen) Dip in honey and enjoy. Mark one challah gently with the knife, hold both challahs and recite:īaruch ata adonai, eloheinu melech ha'olam, hamotzi lechem min ha'aretz. Recite the following: Baruch atah adonai, eloheinu melech ha'olam, asher kid'shanu b'mitz-votav, v'tzivanu al netilat yadayim. Fill a large cup with water and pour water three times over your right hand and three times over your left. Next, proceed to wash your hands for Challah. Ha-olam, she-heche-yanu v’ki-y’manu v’higianu li-z’man ha-ze.(guests respond: Amen) Baruch atah adonai, hamavdil bein kodesh l'kodesh. Bein kedushat shabbat lik'du-shat yom tov hivdalta, v'et yom hashvi'i mi-shei-shet yemei hama'aseh kidashta, hivdalta v'kidashta et amcha yisrael bik'du-sha-techa. Ha-olam, hamavdil bein kodesh l'chol, bein ohr l'cho-shech, bein yisrael la'amim, bein yom hashvi'i l'shei-shet yemei ha-ma'aseh. On Saturday night only, recite the following now: On all nights except Saturday night, continue to Shehecheyanu below. While standing, fill a nice cup with wine, place it in your right hand, glance at the candles, and recite the following:
